Frequently Asked Questions

WHEN WILL YOUR CHILD BE A SAFE SWIMMER?

Please realize that no two people are alike and that children, and especially babies, will progress at their own pace. The progress of each student varies with his or her physical abilities, fear levels, and self-confidence.  At what point a child is considered to be a “swimmer” or to be “safe” is usually best defined by the parent.  Regardless of what level a person swims at, we feel very strongly that no one should ever swim alone or without a responsible adult present.

At our swim school, a child may pass a different level of achievement each session and then suddenly stay at one level for 4 or 5 sessions.  This is not unusual and does not mean that the child is not progressing; it typically means that endurance must be developed and a repetition of skills is required for them to become automatic.

Please see our “Swim Levels” for a detailed list of the skills reviewed at each level.  Each of these skills may or may not be practiced during every class, however they are practiced sometime during the session if the children are ready.  The “Skills Required to Pass” a level are very specific and not malleable.  That is, if a child can pass only three out of four of these skills, they cannot pass to the next level.  This is vitally important because it is the only way we can be sure that each student designated to be in a certain level is truly at that level.  If a child is passed on to the next level without being capable of all the skills at the previous level, he or she will be considerably behind the children at the next level and may be asked to return to the previous level.

HOW DO WE MAINTAIN OUR HIGH STANDARDS OF INSTRUCTIONAL QUALITY?

Instructor Training

In addition to being currently certified in First Aid, CPR, and Life Guarding, each of our instructors goes through an extensive and rigorous training process.  This process thoroughly acquaints the trainees with our philosophies and methods.  Although each instructor has his or her own individual style, all the instructors use the same general approach and cover the same skills in each level.

If you have any questions about our training program, or if you know someone who may be interested in becoming a swim instructor, please ask any member of our management team for further details.

Advanced Training and Management Evaluations

In order to continually improve the quality of instruction offered by each individual teacher, we offer a number of advanced training courses throughout the year and a member of our management team evaluates each instructor during every session for which the instructor teaches.

Parent Evaluations

We request that one parent from each family fill out a parent evaluation form on the last day of each session.  If you have more than one child with more than one instructor, extra forms may be needed.  Regardless of how many sessions you take with us, we value your input every session.  A manager reads every one of the evaluation forms and we find the comments especially useful. These forms provide an opportunity for each family to help to continually mold our policies and practices.

WHERE DO YOU PARK IF THE CUSTOMER LOT IS FULL

During our peak seasons, our parking lots are consistently filled to capacity.  We ask that our families please be considerate of one another, demonstrate patience, and take extra care to avoid the small children that are not easily seen.

There is space along the street (N. Huntington Park Dr.) just east of QuickMart.  Please do not park in the Quik Mart parking lot or the parking lot to the west of our property.

WHERE DO YOU SIT DURING YOUR CHILD'S SWIM LESSONS?

Please stay behind the yellow line painted on the deck until the instructor calls the students to the pool.  Our instructors need to focus on only the students in their own class in order to maximize the instructional quality and safety of their students.  Extraneous individuals (adults or children) wading or playing along the side of the pool are a distraction and safety hazard.

DOES YOUR CHILD NEED TO WEAR A SWIM DIAPER?

Swim diapers are required for any child not potty trained.  You may re-useable or disposable swim diapers.

WHO SHOULD YOU TALK TO ABOUT ANY CONCERNS?

We are always working to improve our performance through continuous self-monitoring and evaluations, as well as always striving to find new and better ways to teach swimming. Whenever you have any special areas of praise or concern, please don’t wait until the end of the session to tell us how you feel.  You may talk directly to the child's swim instructor if you have any questions directly related to the swim instruction.  You may also come to the front office and ask any swim-school related questions.

HOW OFTEN DO WE TEST OUR POOL CHEMICALS?

For your safety, we check the pool chemistry 2-3 times each day.  At times, we may find it necessary to add chemicals during class times that do NOT compromise the safety of the swimmers.
